The Sauna Collective — Larsbergs Torg
Placed on the square of Larsbergs Centrum we find an explosion of colors. A small building with strange spheres appears to have landed on this very grey site one early evening in November, 2020, as if this year couldn’t get any weirder. It is hard to tell its origin, let us call the style:
Crazy Bollywood Italian Disco.
Steam comes floating out in the cold autumn air from the pink spheres, and we see figures very much like humans step out in bathing suits to then cool themselves in the water filled tanks in close proximity to the spheres. The function of these structures reminds us of the nordic act and ritual of sauna bathing.
The strange small building would fit very well as a public sauna, as this part of the island of Lidingö doesn’t belong to the posh humans. Here the humans can share and soon a sauna collective if formed, a folkrörelse as they call it in Sweden, and the humans start to take hold of the strange small building.
Until this day, the collective is still alive and has expanded along the water by the cliffs, inspiring the rest of Sweden to follow. More saunas to the people!
